CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS
How cancelling a booking and getting money back works.
Every published departure carries its own cancellation policy. You see it on the departure, review it again at checkout and accept that exact version before you pay. The accepted version is the one that applies to your booking.
The policy that applies to you
The cancellation policy and booking terms are shown with a version number at checkout. The version you accept is saved with your booking, so a later edit to the departure does not change the terms you agreed to.
Asking to cancel
Open the booking in your account and send a cancellation request, or message Akale on WhatsApp with your booking reference. A request does not cancel the booking on its own. Akale’s operations team reviews it against the policy you accepted and records the decision in your booking.
- Have your booking reference ready
- Say which travellers in the booking are cancelling
- Watch the booking record for the decision and any refund
When Akale cancels a departure
If Akale cancels a departure, every booking on it that has a payment is marked for a refund, and bookings without a payment are cancelled. The booking record shows the change, and Akale contacts the travellers on that departure.
Holds that run out
A booking hold reserves seats for a short time while you pay. If the hold runs out before payment is confirmed, the seats are released and the hold expires. An expired hold is not a booking and is not charged.
How refunds are paid
An approved refund is returned through the original payment method where the payment provider allows it. The booking record and the printable receipt show each refund and its status. How long the money takes to reach your account depends on your bank and the payment provider.
